Country Inn Milky House Becomes Japan’s First Pension to Achieve 『GSTC』Certification
31 July 2026
Press release
On June 11, 2026, Country Inn Milky House, operated by Niseko Milkies Co., Ltd. and located in Niseko Town, Hokkaido, became the first pension-style accommodation in Japan to achieve GSTC Certification.
For many years, Country Inn Milky House has operated as a community-rooted accommodation provider in the Niseko region, placing importance on harmonious coexistence with both the local community and the natural environment. Through participation in local events, collaboration with local businesses, and the use of locally sourced ingredients, the property contributes to the development of the regional economy and culture.
In addition, the inn features décor and cultural elements that reflect the unique character of Hokkaido and Niseko, helping to showcase the distinct identity of the region to its guests.
The property has implemented measures to monitor and manage its energy consumption, water usage, and greenhouse gas emissions. Other initiatives include the use of energy-efficient equipment, water conservation measures, and efforts to reduce plastic consumption. In addition, the property is exploring the future adoption of renewable energy sources.
A notable aspect of Country Inn Milky House’s approach is that, despite being a small-scale accommodation provider, it has steadily implemented initiatives within its means and integrated them into its daily operations. Rather than treating sustainability merely as a policy or documented commitment, the property has embedded sustainability practices into its day-to-day management and operations.
This certification demonstrates that not only large hotels and resort properties, but also small, community-based accommodation providers can be recognized for their efforts to meet the internationally recognized GSTC Criteria. We hope that the achievements of Country Inn Milky House will inspire other accommodation providers to further advance sustainable tourism initiatives.
Control Union Japan extends its sincere congratulations to Country Inn Milky House on this achievement.
